A last minute drive to Germany for the weekend led us to Bruges. I love how easy it is for us to be able to jump into the car and drive to a completely different country with a completely culture, all in a matter of hours. We arrived in the city on Friday evening, as the sun was setting, to then grab a delicious dinner of fondue and red wine and squeeze in a wander of the streets by night. We got up fairly early on Saturday morning in order to make the most of the little time we had left in the city before having to leave it at 11:30am! We were greeted to morning sunlight casting warm hues across the picturesque buildings. There were a only few people around at this hour, so we roamed the streets in peace, feeling like we could really absorb the ambience of the place without it being tampered by the commotion of many tourists. It’s pretty unbelieveable a beautiful place like this is accessible from the UK in under 4 hours of travelling (if you exclude the waiting times!). I would love to come back for a full weekend to see the museums and eat more food, but I am happy in the short space of time, I was able to capture some of the city’s essence.
